Leadership Calhoun Launches Second Cohort with 18 Emerging Leaders
The photo above shows the 2026-27 Leadership Cohort with speaker, Stacy Besch, from the October "Leader in You" session.
The opening session, held at Berger’s DX Station in Lohrville, focused on “The Leader in You,” encouraging participants to discover their individual strengths, build relationships and explore opportunities to make a positive impact in their communities.
The day featured leadership development with Stacy Besch of Algona, a StrengthsFinder session facilitated by Shelly Greving of Emerge Marketing, and insights from Holly Betten, a graduate of Leadership Calhoun's inaugural cohort. Participants also began learning more about Calhoun County and the opportunities and challenges facing rural communities.
“Leadership Calhoun is about developing people who are willing to step forward, get involved and make a difference,” said Theresa Hildreth, Executive Director of CCEDC. “We have an outstanding group of 18 individuals who bring diverse experiences, talents and perspectives to the program. I'm excited to watch their growth throughout the coming months.”
The eight-month program provides participants with firsthand experiences in local government, education, healthcare, agriculture, business, industry and community development. Monthly sessions will take participants throughout Calhoun County, connecting them with local leaders and providing a deeper understanding of the county's assets and opportunities.
Leadership Calhoun was established as part of CCEDC's strategic commitment to community development and capacity building. Its inaugural cohort graduated 15 participants in June 2026 and successfully organized the Cuisine in the Corn fundraising event, demonstrating the impact of leadership through community service.
The program is made possible through the generous support of local businesses and organizations that recognize the importance of investing in Calhoun County's future leaders along side the Board of Directors of Calhoun County Economic Development Corporation.
Leadership Calhoun is more than a leadership development program. It's an investment in the people who will help shape the future of Calhoun County.
